This ongoing personal project is based on British folk tradition and medieval mystery plays. Every year, when Morris dancers gather to dance the sun up on May Day, they finish the session by greeting the rising sun and welcoming the May and the renewal of the land. Similarly, in the mummer's tradition, the King is ultimately victorious over the forces of darkness and winter at the end of the pantomime. This series explores the iconography of the sun and renewal and the pageantry of folkways.
